You know what’s a lot harder than it seems? Actually feeling alive.
We’re constantly doing, but we’re not necessarily living. We keep ourselves busy to the point of exhaustion. We languish and feel dead inside.
You know what? I have (and you probably have, too) figured out that life is short. We need to feel alive more often. And the key to ‘feeling alive’ is having more fun moments every day.
One of the lines I remember the most from the K-drama My Liberation Notes is “Five minutes a day. If you have five minutes of fun a day, it’s bearable. That’s how I survive.”
If you notice whenever you do something, or whenever you spend time with somebody, you feel fun, then make a point of repeating it actively.
If you feel fun when you read, make sure to include ‘Read 5min’ in your daily to-do list. If you feel fun when you talk to a particular friend, make sure to drop them a message at some point during the day. That’s a guaranteed way you’ll have at least 5 minutes of fun every day.
If fun were a color, it would be the color of sunshine. Do you notice that: when people have fun, they look illuminated?
Fun is not frivolous, it is necessary and should be given adequate attention. Fun makes us laugh more, makes us more resilient, makes us better partners, friends… Fun makes us feel alive.
Let’s treat fun as an important thing, because it should, and because we deserve fun.
